I am frequently asked about mink eyelash extensions, along with if they are cruelty free. It is what inspired me to write this blog post to start my FabULash Herts blog, as it combines my love of lashes with my love of animals.
It seems there is a common misconception that mink lashes are the product of mink being gently caressed and fed a tasty treat while their fur is gently plucked. It's either that or it is one of those things that consumers are just blissfully unaware of.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but mink are very unlikely to be treated well and the below image is more likely to be the conditions they are kept in before their fur is harvested for various fur products like eyelash extensions.
Where do mink lashes come from?
The simple answer to this is they come from fur farms, some suppliers of mink fur badge their produce up with reassuring labels like "cruelty free" or "free range" but according to Peta this couldn't be further from the truth. The truth of the matter is that minks can't be farmed free range, they aren't docile animals like sheep who will happily graze in a field all day and return to their barn at night. They are solitary, highly territorial animals who are aggressive when they feel threatened. So the reality is they are kept in small wire cages where they are denied the opportunity to burrow, bathe or do anything else that a wild mink would do.
Sounds anything but "cruelty free" or "free range"!
The good news!!
I am a Nouveau trained eyelash extension technician and I use their products, Nouveau lashes are 100% vegan and cruelty free.
So the great news is you can have the glamorous lash look you are after, safe in the knowledge that the lashes you are wearing are high quality synthetic lashes free from any animal cruelty.
